One of the other most common reasons why women refer to our clinic relating to genital aesthetic surgery is for vaginal tightening.

The vagina becomes increasingly loose and saggy due to normal births, multiple pregnancies (twin or triplet pregnancies), excessive weight gain, advanced age pregnancies, high pregnancy weight causing deformity of the mucosal inner wall and muscle tissue resulting it becoming loose and saggy.  This, in turn causes problems such as not having any pleasure during intercourse for both the partners and having adverse effects in social life.

Is it possible to have vaginal tightening without an operation?

In some cases, the vagina can be tightened without surgery, and laser systems are used for this. The basic principle in these types of laser systems is to damage the mucosa and to allow the mucosa to tighten itself a little during its recovery. However laser operation cannot give the same results as an operation and should only be used in cases where the vagina is only slightly loose and saggy.  We can also benefit from the laser system in situations where we want some more tightness after the operation.

When can vaginal tightening operation be done?

You can have a vaginal tightening operation when your period finishes or 10 days before it starts. This is because we need to be able to differentiate the menstrual bleeding from operational one.

How is a vaginal tightening operation performed?

It is often performed under local anaesthesia and sedation or general anaesthesia. The operation lasts between 45 minutes to an hour. The under wall section inner mucous and muscle layer of the loose and sagging vagina is removed from the front towards the back section. The vagina muscle layer is pressed and tightened, the mucous layer is stretched and closed with self-dissolving stitches ending the operation.  The Rugaplates which has lost their functionality and are loosed will also be rearranged at the same time.

Post op

No hospital say is required, you can return home immediately after the operation. A tampon will be placed in the vagina which will be removed the following day in the clinic. There may be slight sensitivity felt due to the tampon, however once it is removed this sensation will end. Vaginal tightening is not a painful operation but it is beneficial to rest for 3-4 days after the operation. One week after the procedure it will be as if you’ve never had an operation.  The body will get rid of the self-absorbed stitches in 15-20 days. You can go to toilet and have baths on the same day. There is no need for closed dressings. You will need to cleanse with disinfection solutions recommended. Mild painkillers and use of prophylactic antibiotics will be sufficient.  No one will be able tell you have had an operation within a month of the operation. There is no scarring in genital operations. You can return to your sexual life a month after the operation.

Are the results of the operation permanent?

As with all our body tissues there will also be slight loosing on the vaginal tissue after the surgery. However, it will never be saggy and lose as it was before the procedure.
